Paintbrush Faces – Pattern Collection

This collection came about from a brief asking for a paintbrush inspired pattern with suggestions for inspiration as:

  • Abstract
  • Bold
  • Multidirectional
  • Experimental
  • Figurative
  • Faces

I took inspiration from the faces of Picasso and Pro Hart, sketching up ideas in my sketchbook. As sketches they are nothing exciting to look at but with the help of a scanner, live trace and my illustrator skills I have created a collection that is growing on me.

The more I look at it the more I like it. Which is kinda nice as Maria from Digital Fabrics chose it for their artist gallery meaning you can get it printed on your favourite fabric here in Australia.

There are 4 patterns in the collection in 3 colourways.

Paintbrush Faces

Funky Friday is a bold abstract with deconstructed faces all mixed up and blended with linework and painted spaces. It’s a bold Scarlett as we all let our hair down Friday. The motifs are large varying in size from approx. 46mm x 34mm, to the long pinstripe like line at 175mm.

Wednesday Blues with its mixed abstract faces is in a cool calming palate, as we’re all a bit blue on Wednesday (aka hump day). The motifs are large varying in size from approx. 46mm x 34mm, to the long pinstripe like line at 175mm.

Thoughtful Thursday is calm and sedate with teal and blush and pastel pink. Though the eyes still see and watch over your day. The motifs are large varying in size from approx. 46mm x 34mm, to the long pinstripe like line at 175mm.

Paintbrush

The same paintbrush designs without the deconstructed faces, rough lines and hand drawn sketches. Scanned and turned into digital elements, they’re clean and crisp with a little squiggle too.

  • Scarlett Saturday
  • Teal
  • Blue

And for those that prefer more sedate type designs, Paintbrush also comes on a white base with

  • Blue Sunday – with scribbles of sky blue and a sunny yellow.
  • Mondrien Monday – with primary colours of red, yellow and blue – just like Mondrien used.
  • Teal Tuesday – with teal and scarlett and a pop of sunny yellow.

The Basics

As you can’t have a collection without some basics to tie it all together, these are a modern take on a pinstripe design. With lines that don’t quite join in alternating lengths, that are also hand drawn so not quite straight. Then add a little cross stroke detail to add some fun. The strokes vary in length from approx. 100mm to 240mm. Basics are available in:

  • Blue
  • Blush
  • Scarlett
  • Sunshine
  • Teal
