The brief came from the Make it in Design 2018 summer school called ‘Shoreline – Fabric Dyeing’ which called for a simple fabric dyeing inspired pattern. Which after researching and looking at the trend briefs supplied in the brief lead to a Shibori – tie dye inspired design.
As the design called for simple motifs, I went back to basics for simple strokes using a paint stroke effect in illustrator. Using a cross, X and C as the base for the motifs.
The provided colour palate was indigo, baby blue, lilac, lemon, mint and pastel pink. Which I found easy to incorporate as they are colours that I naturally gravitate to in my designing.
In the end I created 3 basic designs in the collection, with simple repeats to enhance the simple motifs within the designs. The final result are simple yet stunning and effective designs perfect on fabrics and homewares.
The designs are:
- Shoreline Cross
- Shoreline C
- Shoreline X
These designs and other colourways are available on fabric from Spoonflower and clothing and homewares from Redbubble.
